About Department About Course Faculty Achievements About Department Vision Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering and Management envisages the institute par excellence, providing world class Technical and Management Education. Mission To impart quality education in the field of Engineering and Management; to foster mutually beneficial relationship with industries; to create intellectually stimulating environment for learning, research and promotion of professional and ethical values. Prof. Manjusha Patne The Department is mainly responsible for running the Engineering Mathematics courses at the UG level. It is one of the earliest departments of the college with dedicated faculty members having long teaching experience. The Department offers five electives Discrete Random Process (MAT299-1) , Mathematics and its Applications (MAT299-2) to semester IV and Combinatorial Theories (MAT 301), Numerical Techniques (MAT 302),Statistical Methods for Business and Management (MAT 303) to Semester VI students. It prepares and maintains teaching material on the college website for all these courses, using LaTex, SageMath and Mathematica. The material comprises of lecture notes, supplementary study material, interactive documents, and useful study links. Salient features of Department The Mathematics Department has been equipped with an innovative Computational Mathematics Laboratory aligned with current requirements of technical education. The Mathematics Department has designed 22 mathematics courses at UG level fulfilling the current needs of all disciplines. The department has eight Assistant Professors. The faculty members have filed two patents out of which one got published. The faculty members have published about 45 research papers in International and National Journals of repute. They also have presented many papers in International and National conferences. Area of specialization of the faculty includes Fluid dynamics, Relativity and Cosmology, Statistics, Discrete Mathematics and Group Theory. Faculty members are regularly invited to deliver guest lectures at many institutions. Faculty members have chaired sessions at International and National Conferences.

English Language Lab The Department of Humanities is committed to carry out its vision of creating effective communicators with social and cultural sensitivity to enhance their employability. In order to orient students of the college in various aspects of effective communication, the Language Lab was established in 2008-2009. Since then students have been given training to achieve the four fold objective of language learning, that is, effective listening, speaking, reading and writing. The lab is equipped with computers and audio-video resources to orient the students to develop effective communication skills. The lab course has gone through upgradations since its establishment in the year 2011. Mr. Vinay Chawla from “Enlighten the Soul” orienting students about interview and GD techniques The English Language Lab is compulsory for the students of First Year, as it is a part of their curriculum. The current course on the lines of AICTE Model Curriculum is named as English for Professional Communication Lab HUP1002/2002 and has a weightage of one credit. The lab caters to the language and communication needs through various interventions conducted by subject teachers using open source, innovative methods and the Digital Linguistic Mentor Software, specifically designed for this purpose. Readers’ Reverie Literary Club Readers’ Reverie Literary Club works under the aegis of Department of Humanities and Students’ Representative Council. The Club organizes various events for the students of the college under the supervision of the Head of the Department of Humanities, Dr. Deepshika Mehra and Faculty In charge of Readers’ Reverie Literary Club, Dr. Pratishruti Singh in collaboration with the SRC. It is the forum where students with a passion for art meet and discuss ideas ranging from depths of wisdom found in do has to fickleness of youth found in contemporary fiction. The club values freedom of expression and open-mindedness and is exactly the place one would come and hone their articulation and debating skills. The club also represents a place where engaging with differing viewpoints is encouraged to have a better learning experience in college life. It was a first of its kind event held in the college, as it not only provided a platform, to the first years to participate in various literary events, but also inculcated a sense of team work and unity amongst the classmates as it was an Inter Class competition, with one section emerging as the overall winners. The events conducted were: Speak Out Loud: An annual debate competition for all the first years, giving them an opportunity to let their words define their stands through this English debate. Abhivyakti: A Hindi elocution competition for the speakers to come and speak their hearts out in the national language. InQUIZzite: A quiz competition for the pantomaths and quizzers to come and flaunt their cognizance. Auditions for all the above mentioned events were conducted on the 10th and 12th of February with only the best amongst the lot proceeding towards the final rounds.It started with an inaugural ceremony which was graced by Dr.S.D.Mohgaonkar, Dean, First year, Ms. Pratishruti Singh-Agrawal, Faculty In-charge, Readers Reverie Literary Club and Mr.Neeraj Dayaramani, Student Head, Readers’ Reverie Literary Club. Dr. Mohgaonkar in his address stated the importance of conducting such activities for the overall development of an individual, and also congratulated the team of Readers Reverie Literary Club for the initiative to include events such as Hindi elocution and Quiz. The events saw the first years participating enthusiastically in all the fronts.Dr. V.H. Asudani was the judge for Abhivyakti. The Quizmaster for InQUIZitive was Mr.Rahul Bhagat. Speak out Loud was judged by Dr. Anjali Patil-Gaikwad. The valedictory function was graced by Dr. Deepshikha Mehra, Head, Department of Humanities. She handed away the prizes to all the prize winners. Section G emerged as the overall champions and bagged the rolling shield. Section G class representatives along with their class teacher, Prof. Rahul M, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering received the shield on the class’ behalf. YOUTH PARLIAMENT 2019 Youth Parliament is an event organised by Readers’ Reverie Literary Club in collaboration with Students’ Representative Council. This year, it was held on 12th January 2019, Saturday. The judge for the Youth Parliament was Dr. G.S. Khwaja, an acclaimed scholar in the field of Archaeology, an Urdu poet, actor and retired professor. Dr. Khwaja was welcomed by Dr. Y.M.Sonkhaskar, Dean, SRC and felicitated with the College memento by Dr. Deepshikha Mehra, HoD, Humanities. Faculty-in-charge, Readers’ Reverie Literary Club, Ms. Pratishruti Singh-Agarwal was also present. The Speakers of the Parliament were Ayush Rastogi and Sai Shashank. Initially, the branches were allotted different political parties of India by drawing lots and were asked to make a bill depending on the given parties’ ideologies. The parliament consisted of

Mission The mission of the Department is to build and polish the soft skills of budding technocrats and sensitize them to social, political, economic, cultural, and psychological aspects of the society in general and the industry in particular. This is to equip them to contribute towards the sustainable development of the society. The mission is also to undertake research studies to contribute to a better understanding of linkages between Applied Humanities and Technical Education. Dr. Deepshikha R. Mehra Salient features of Department The Department of Humanities is working to achieve the vision of creating effective communicators and socially responsible engineers and has thus developed various courses to enhance communication and employability skills of the students along with strong human values. It also mentors various extra-curricular activities to achieve the same goal. The Department teaches wide range of courses including English, Constitution of India, Engineering and Managerial Economics, Psychology, Education Technology, Ornithology, Technical Communication, Business Communication and many other courses to students of undergraduate as well as post-graduate programmes.The Department has a digitized English Language Lab which has practical session on public speaking, presentation skills, interview techniques, group discussions and other related aspects of developing effective communication skills. As part of its good practises these lab sessions provide scope for peer evaluation which helps students develop skills such as observation, assessment, and objective thinking.The Department offers 22 open electives which include courses on Indian traditional Knowledge, Indian languages like Sanskrit, foreign languages such as German, Japanese, and Spanish. The Department also offers two Minor specializations in Economics and Applied Psychology. In line with the National Education Policy 2020, many valued added and open electives courses are offered by the Department in performing and visual arts such as Indian classical dance forms, theatre, photography, etc. This is in addition to many other Liberal Arts courses.Faculty members of the Department have specializations in English Literature and Language, Economics, Environmental Economics, Linguistics, German, Psychology, History, Sociology, Political Science, Public Administration, Education and Human Resource Management. The Department also undertakes Faculty Development Programmes to enhance communication skill of faculty members of other departments.Four of the faculty members have Ph.Ds. The faculty have an average teaching experience of 14 years. Two of the faculty members are recognized Ph.D. supervisors. They have more than nine years of research experience in rural development and international training in environment management-specific research methodology. They have many publications in national and international journals, chapters in edited books, have authored many books, and have numerous national and international conference paper presentations. The faculty members are also invited as resource persons for sessions on human resource development, academic and technical writing, communication skills, environment conservation, and are involved in various literary activities.The Department is committed to enrich the personalities of the students by providing them opportunities for co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. These activities help to develop or enhance generic skills such as team work, public speaking/convincing, leadership/managing people, conflict-resolution, innovation, creativity, time-management as well as spirit of volunteerism.In order to sensitize the students about need for environmental conservation, the Department founded the environmental club of RCOEM, REEF (Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineers for Environment Forum), in 2012. REEF won Wipro’s international Earthian Award 2015 along with its mentor faculty and won a cash prize of Rs. 1,50,000. The club undertakes various activities throughout the year (now under the mentorship of a faculty from Dept. of Chemistry).In order to promote literary activities, the Department established Reader’s Reverie in 2014 which eventually collaborated with SRC to form the Readers’ Reverie Literary Club. ‘Speak Out Loud’, ‘Aalekh’ and ‘Youth Parliament’ are the prominent annual activities of the club. Besides this, the club arranges many activities such as debates, elocutions, quiz, creative writing, essay writing, story-telling, interviews with budding writers and so on. The Department is also keen to promote cultural consciousness among students, thus the Drama Club of the College is also mentored by the faculty of the Department of Humanities.
