The Department was established in 1984 and has been accredited thrice. It offers UG and PG course in Industrial Engineering. It is well known across the area for excellent facilities and research and development potential in the areas of Logistics, Supply Chain, Quality and Reliability.

Career Prospects

Industrial Engineers are hugely demanded in both India and abroad. The demand for Industrial Engineers is in fact ever increasing. Industrial Engineers are involved in Review production schedules, engineering specifications, process flows, and other information to understand methods that are applied and activities that take place in manufacturing and services, Figure out how to manufacture parts or products, or deliver services, with maximum efficiency, Develop management control systems to make financial planning and cost analysis more efficient, Enact quality control procedures to resolve production problems or minimize costs, Design control systems to coordinate activities and production planning in order to ensure that products meet quality standards, Confer with clients about product specifications, vendors about purchases, management personnel about manufacturing capabilities, and staff about the status of projects.
An Industrial Engineer can get jobs in almost all types of industries (manufacturing/service).An industrial engineer is a systems integrator – a big-picture thinker. It also covers a wide and varied range of industries from FMCG, IT & system, consultancy, banking & financial institutions to telecom. Industrial Engineers can take self Employment as their first choice. Qualities, techniques required for being an employer is nurtured in them since their inception in to the course module. Self employment opportunities are also available as consultants or specialists usually after suitable years of industrial experience. They can join private consultancy firms, R&D establishments of big companies. Industrial engineers have ample opportunities for pursuing their post graduation studies in and outside INDIA. (Technical and Management). Because of the broad-based nature of the course, industrial engineers can work with all types of engineering and manufacturing industries in the private and public sectors.

Program Educational Objectives

  • The students of Industrial Engineering shall be prepared to work in any Engineering Organization, pursue higher studies, or start their own entrepreneurial project.
  • Industrial Engineering Students shall have expertise to create integrated systems of Man-Machine Material for productivity improvement. Students shall have ability to provide financially viable systems.
  • The students shall have general understanding and competency of designing, evaluating and Interfacing systems of Information & Technology, Mechanical & Production Engineering.
  • Exposure to management courses shall inculcate into the students a sense of professionalism. Involvement of graduates with student bodies, shall help them shape their personalities, as it will hone their communication skills, build team spirit and generate social awareness.
  • The students will have desire to pursue higher studies and engage themselves in lifelong learning, in the context of technological changes.

Programme Objectives

Industrial engineering (IE) is concerned with development of expertise to design, improve and install integrated systems of man-machine-material. IE provides information and awareness to reduce wastage of time, money, materials, energy and other resources. It draws upon specialized knowledge and skill in the mathematical, physical and social sciences together with the principles and methods of engineering analysis and design to specify, predict, and evaluate the results to be obtained from such systems. The program is aimed at creating knowledge that advances the state-of-the-art technology in production processes using underlying principles of management, modelling/simulation and application of other tools for enhancing system efficiency.

Program Outcomes

Engineering Graduates will be able to:

  1. Engineering knowledge:

    Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  2. Problem analysis:

    Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics,natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  3. Design/development of solutions:

    Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  4. Conduct investigations of complex problems:

    Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  5. Modern tool usage:

    Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  6. The engineer and society:

    Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  7. Environment and sustainability:

    : Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
  8. Ethics:

    Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
  9. Individual and team work:

    Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.

    Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.

Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering & Management has the distinction of offering first inter disciplinarily post graduate programme in Industrial Engineering in the year 2004. This Post Graduate programme has the available expertise of its core faculty supported by faculty of other departments and expert faculty from other engineering colleges. Faculty specializes in Operations Research, Quality Management, Human factors Engineering, Simulation and Modeling. Most of the faculty members are doctorates and deeply involved in the research work. The programme is functioning with the state of the art laboratories and close association with industries around. All the Post Graduate Projects are based on live problems offered by the industry.

Events /Activities

Three-day Course on “Maynard operation sequence technique(MOST)” for Industry Personnel Department of Industrial Engineering is organized a three-day course on “Maynard operation sequence technique (MOST)” for Industry Personnel from 27th to 29th December 2018. The programwas organized with a view to train the industry persons in the field of productivity improvement through rigorous analysis of production methods and time losses associated with production processes. The participants from various industries in and around Nagpur attended the program. Dr. V. S. Deshpande, Dr. Priya Khandekar, Prof. Mangesh Joshi and Prof. Himanshu Shukla delivered expert lectures during the respective sessions. The valedictory function concluded with the mentoring remarks of Dr. I. P. Keswani, Head Industrial Engg. Department. He praised the program as an avenue for extending the knowledge support to industries and application of engineering concepts in real life industrial situations. Prof. P. B. Shiwalkar also contributed significantly in the program.
