Vision

To continually improve the education environment, in order to develop graduates with strong academic and technical background needed to achieve distinction in the discipline. The excellence is expected in various domains like workforce, higher studies or lifelong learning. To strengthen links between industry through partnership and collaborative development works.

Mission

To develop strong foundation of theory and practices of computer science amongst the students to enable them to develop into knowledgeable, responsible professionals, lifelong learners and implement the latest computing technologies for the betterment of the society.

Salient features of Department

  • The Department of Computer Science & Engineering was established in 2002, is well-equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure.
  • The state of art infrastructure includes latest configuration desktops organized in four different laboratories. There are total 170 desktops with internet facility and inter-connected by a 24 hours server and CISCO router.
  • Computer laboratories have IBM and WIPRO servers and uses software of industry standard like Rational Rose, Oracle, DB2 AIX, and MSDN subscription for Microsoft products.
  • The Department is an authorized training center for Oracle Certification where students pursued certification like Oracle Certified Associate (OCA) and Oracle Certified Professional (OCP). The process of signing MOU for SUN-Java Technologies is in progress.
  • The Department has a distinction of consistently achieving above 95% results in the final year. Students are encouraged to appear in GATE, CAT, GRE and other competitive examinations which has resulted in increasing number of students clearing these exams. Mr. Anshul Agarwal has secured All India Rank 79 in GATE 2014 examination with GATE score of 886.

Career Prospects

There is large employment potential for Computer Science & Engineering graduates in all sectors of industry. Computer Science Engineers have numerous career opportunities in areas like Software Industries, IT Enabled Service firms, Research Sector and Communication industry. In private sector, they can work in top firms like Accenture, Infosys, TCS, IBM India, CapGemini, Congnizant, Amdocs, etc. In Government sector they can operate in some of the reputed firms like NTPC, ONGC, ISRO, Banking Sector, Communication Industry like BSNL, MTNL etc. They have a good career scope abroad too where they can work in reputed companies like Google, Yahoo, Philips, Samsung, Nikon, Acer, etc. They can seek opportunities to work in profiles like Software Developer, Application Developer, Enterprise Architect, Data Analyst, Database Administrator, CGI Special effect developers, Client Server Systems Manager etc. in these firms. The companies like Informatica, Nvidia, Amdocs, J.P.Morgan offers dream status career prospects to the students. After a span of two or more year of experience in IT and ITES industries, the graduates can get a good shift to Software industries like Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, Amazon, Peoplesoft, Oracle etc. There is also good employment potential at local software industries based in Nagpur like: Global Logic Pvt Ltd, Persistent Systems, Infocepts etc.

Industry Institute Interaction

The Department has good industry interaction with Software industries, Government organization and Private Sectors around the region. The Memorandum of Understanding is signed for Student Projects, Faculty Trainings, and Research work. The industry offers problem definitions to pre-final and final year students for projects along with guidance. The final outcome in most of projects is integrated as part of product and utilized by industry.

The industry offers training in recent trend and technology in the form of Open Elective courses. The guest lectures are organized by department by inviting industry experts in the areas of Mobility, Big Data, and Storage Management.

To provide platform for students to demonstrate skill, department organize yearly technical event “Polaris”. This event is organized in association with Computer Society of India (CSI). The event witness large participation of students from various institutes across Nagpur region. The event is judged by industry experts.

Every year an industry tour is organized by department to reputed Software Industries in India to help students to get acquainted with environment and working culture of software industry.

Program Education Objectives of Computer Science and Engineering Department are:

  1. To prepare graduates to apply the broad set of techniques, tools, and skills from science, mathematics and engineering required to solve problems in Computer Science and Engineering.
    The field of Computer Science & Engineering is a fast evolving field and caters to multiple disciplines. The focus is to imbibe necessary skill set amongst the students and develop competencies to solve basic computer science & engineering problem.

  2. To prepare graduates to address practices in computer science and engineering using software development life cycle principles.
    The department aims to develop good analytical and designing skills amongst students, while emphasizing on theoretical and practical aspects of computer science.

  3. To provide adequate training & opportunities to work as teams in multidisciplinary projects.
    The department aims at encouraging team spirit through projects which are multidisciplinary in nature.

  4. To prepare the graduates to exhibit professionalism, communication skills, ethical attitude, and practice their profession with high regard to legal and ethical responsibilities.
    The department recognizes the need for effective communication in students and strives to enhance this aspect. The department feels that apart from curricular studies, it is necessary to impart good moral values in the students so that they are aware of their social responsibilities.

  5. To prepare graduates for engaging in life-long learning, such as post graduate study & certification courses.
    The department encourages the students for higher studies and certification courses to keep track with the pace of technology.

Programme Outcomes of Computer Science & Engineering are: :

  1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  6. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  7. Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
  8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
  9. Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
  10. Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.

Workshop training & STTP & FDP’s 2018-19

• ACM’s TWO DAY WORKSHOP ON PROBLEM SOLVING

The two day workshop on “Problem Solving” was scheduled on 2nd and 3rd February, 2019 with “Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)” which is an international learned society for computing and focuses on grooming the computing and logical skills of the Computer Science students. Mr. Vinit Kapoor was the chief guest for this session who is a member of ACM and has an experience of 15 years in product development in different domains covering telecommunication, Enterprise platforms and Internet of Things. He gave a speech on the current trends and necessity of problem solving, etc. Dr. M.B.Chandak, Professor and Head of Department of CSE, RCOEM too delivered his thoughts on the same and felicitated the guests of the sessions with a memento.

Workshop was conducted in three sessions wherein the industry experts and faculties focused on the goal to make students understand the need of problem solving skills set and how to utilize it for algorithmic development. The first session was taken by Dr. Ravindra Keskar, Associate Professor at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, followed by the session of an Industry expert Mr.AmitTodkar, a Software Architect at Persistent Systems, on 2nd February. The third session was taken by Prof. Kishor Bhoyar, faculty and Vice chair of ACM Chapter, Nagpur, on 3rd February which involved hands-on implementation of the real life problem statements.

Sessions were dedicated on giving the hands-on experience to develop problem solving skill set. Industry experts from Persistent and faculties from colleges such as VNIT and YCCE took interactive sessions. There were approximately 45 participants from various colleges who attended all these sessions. Students all over from the various colleges such as VNIT, YCCE, PCE and RCOEM came to attend these sessions. Some of faculties of these colleges have also participated in these interactive sessions.

• Departmental Installation

A Formal Installation was organized by the Computer Science and Engineering Department of Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering and Management Nagpur (RCOEM), on 3rd January, 2019.

This ceremony is organized every year, continuing the tradition of Computer Science and Engineering department. The installation is a whole daylong event to encourage the students towards academic and extra-curricular activities and to provide a platform to showcase their technical skills.

Naidu (Professor in-charge).

The event was inaugurated on 3rd January, 2019.Mr. Shailesh Awale, Center Head and Director at HCL Technologies, Nagpur, was the chief guest for the occasion. He discussed about the current requirements of the industry and also guided the students to contribute for fulfilment of those requirements. He also emphasized the application of technology in the industry and various upcoming technologies that have great importance. Dr. R. S. Pande, Principal, RCOEM, delivered his motivating speech in which he inspired the students to do better in academic as well as co-curricular activities. Dr. M. B. Chandak, Head, CSE Department, motivated the students to bridge the gap between industry and academics for better employment opportunities. He also elaborated that students should take part in various competitions such as Hackathon to boost them and to find their strengths and weaknesses. Prof. D. Naidu, Professor in-charge, briefed the gathering about the various societies (ACM and CSI) associated with the branch and their working. She also elaborated on how these student bodies work and conduct events for the students.

Also, to grace the occasion we had with us Mr. Akhilesh Halve, DGM (Corporate Communication), Nagpur Metro. He promoted their campaign #Dhavnaar Maazi Metro. We feel extremely obliged to become the very first college of Nagpur participating in the campaign. All the dignitaries, teachers and students of the department wrote their heartfelt wishes for Nagpur Metro.

The events under installation ceremony were technical workshop on Arduino and processing, technical events and fun games. Various events conducted during the ceremony were singing and dancing competition, quiz competition, rounds of Eminence providing a platform to students to showcase their talent.

ACM Installation Ceremony

Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering and Management started a new Student Chapter of the Association of Computer Machinery (ACM) on 5th October 2018.

Dr. U.A. Deshpande, Chair, ACM Professional Chapter Nagpur graced the event as the Chief Guest. The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Dr. S.D. Mohgaonkar, Dean, Second Shift, RCOEM, Dr. M.B. Chandak, Head, Department of CSE and Prof. D. R. Naidu, ACM Student Chapter Head, RCOEM.

The hands-on session on “Understanding Digital and Mobile Forensics” was conducted by experts Mr. Tanmay Dixit and Mr. Paresh Chitnis. The participants learnt about various techniques used in digital forensics followed by practical orientation. A total of 46 students participated in the workshop. The event was conducted successfully and received a positive response from the students.

Industry Lecture on Design Patterns • A Two-day Guest Lecture on Design Patterns was organized by Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering and Management (RCOEM), Nagpur in association with Barclays from 15th to 16th September 2018. • The guest speakers for the lecture were Mr. Deepak Sharma, Vice President, Barclays, Pune and Mr. Mandar Kulkarni, Vice President, Barclays, Pune. The event started with welcome of the guests by presenting them a memento, book and bouquet by the hands of Dr. R. S. Pande, Principal, RCOEM in the presence of Dr. M. B. Chandak, Head, Department of CSE, and Dr. A. J. Agrawal, M. Tech coordinator, Department of CSE. • The aim of the event was enhancement of the students' educational experience by exposing the students to real-world life experiences of the industry professionals. • Around 160 students from III year and IV year attended the lecture. The lecture was also graced by the presence of faculties from Departments of Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology and Master of Computer Applications.

POLARIS 2K17

A Two-day National Level Technical Symposium– POLARIS-2k17 was organized by COMPUSYS (Student Society CSE), Computer Science and Engineering Department of Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering and Management (RCOEM), Nagpur in association with Computer Society of India from 18th January to 20th January 2017.
The aim of the event was to encourage the students towards co-curricular activities and provide a platform to showcase their technical skills. Around 1125 participant from all over the region contributed to the successful event. The event was inaugurated by the hands of honorable chief guest Mr. Arvind Kumar, (DY) centre head, TCS Nagpur.

4-day Training Programme on Recent Trends and Technologies in Big Data Analytics [Data Science Research]

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering, RCOEM Nagpur organized DST (Big Data Initiatives Division) sponsored 4-day Training Programme on "Recent Trends and Technologies in Big Data Analytics [Data Science Research]" during 19-22 December 2016. The programme was conducted under the Grants for Conducting Workshops on Data Science Research from Big Data Initiatives Division, Department of Science and Technology, GOI.
Dr. M. B. Chandak, Coordinator, received a grant of INR 6.0 Lacs from DST as financial assistance to conduct the programme. Dr. A. J. Agrawal and Prof. D. A. Borikar were Co-Cordinators for the programme. M/s InsAnalytics, Kolkata was the Knowlege Partner for the programme with 67 faculty and PG student enrollments. The training programme was conducted without any registration fees from the participants.
The inaugural function was presided over by Hon’ble Principal, Dr. R. S. Pande. Mr. Goutam Das, CEO, insAnalytics Kolkata was the Chief Guest of the function. The programme provided hands-on exposure to Machine Learning Algorithms and Tools, Big Data Analytics and avenues in Data Science Research, IOT, and Hadoop File System. The participants were felicitated in valedictory function with certificates at the hands of CEO, insAnalytics, Mr. Goutam Das and Coordinator, Dr. M. B. Chandak on successful completion of the programme.

National Conference on Research in Cloud & Cyber Security

The Dept of CSE of Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering & Management in association with CSI Nagpur Chapter organized one day National Conference on Research in Cloud & Cyber Security, 21st Feb 2015, The Highlight of the conference was Workshop on Digital Forensics and Cyber Security, topics of the workshop were Live Mobile Forensics and Live RAM Clone, Investigation and Security- including IP Tracking Methods and Pure hands-on Training in Ethical Hacking. The domain experts Mr. Tanmay Dixit and Mr. Paresh Chitnis, Director, CPAG, Nasik, demonstrated various cyber crime activities that typically include how cyber crime actually happens, how calls can be spoofed and the ways to bypass authentication in operating systems. Also some of the ways to handle digital forensics issues.

RESEARCH

  • The CSE department is a Recognized Research Centre for Visvesvaraya Ph.D. Scheme under DeitY, Govt. of India for admitting Part-time/Full Time PhD scholars since July 2015. Presently 01 Full Time and 02 Part-time Ph.D. students are admitted under this scheme. RCOEM is the only private engineering institute in Vidarbha region to be selected for this scheme.
  • The CSE department is a Recognized Research Centre of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University for Ph.D. research in the subject of Computer Science and Engineering under Engineering and Technology Faculty since January 2015. Presently 01 candidate has submitted and 10 candidates are pursuing Ph.D. at this centre (including Visvesvaraya PhD candidates) .

INDUSTRY INTERACTION

A sound interaction with industry has resulted in Final Year Projects being defined by reputed software industries. The outcomes of these projects are also used as end product by software industries and are integrated with products used by their clients.

MOUs with companies like Oracle, Infosys, Accenture, GlobalLogic, Infocepts and WCL have brought the required support and training on the latest software products which has helped in bridging the gap between institution and industry.

RCOEM is the partner college of Infosys for their Campus Connect initiative. CSE Department is the center for various activities of Campus Connect.

The Department offers elective courses jointly developed by RCOEM and companies like Persistent, Infosys, GlobalLogic and Infocepts. The courses include Open Electives - Introduction to Mainframes by Infosys, Foundation of Business Intelligence by Infocepts, Nagpur and Android & Mobile Technology by GlobalLogic.

Under RGSTC-TIFAC-MSME Internship Scheme, two teams were involved in development of modules – “Gate Automation using Arduino YUN” in association with Kratin Software Solutions (P) Ltd, and “Remote Meter Reading Automation” in association with RF Arrays Systems (P) Ltd., during May-June 2015.

The group of students from the department has been selected for developing solutions to industry problems under RGSTC-TIFAC-MSME scheme. This scheme provide students to design and develop a product, process in association with the industry with mentoring inputs from industry and the parent institution. The projects are:

Project Name: Role of ICT in developing Smart Universities

Open Electives:

  • The department offers industry electives in association with Globallogic India Pvt. Ltd. Nagpur and InfoCepts Technologies Pvt. Ltd. Nagpur.
  • A course in “Mobile Technology” has been offered and conducted for 2014-15 and 2015-16 sessions by M/s Globallogic Ltd. while a course in “Foundations of Business Intelligence” has been offered and conducted for 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 sessions by M/s Infocepts Ltd.
  • The faculty after acquiring training at Persistent System Pvt. Ltd. Nagpur floated and offered a course in “Salesforce Technology” as an Open Elective for sixth semester students in the session 2013-14.
  • Outcome:
    • Students learned current knowledge from the industry experts
    • These industries offers projects to the students
    • Industries offer placements and internship to selected students.

MOUs / INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATIONS

The institute has 10 academic MOUs with international universities of which 5 MOUs are with North American Universities.

CSE Department has been associated with the international universities though these MOUs.

In July 2016, an MOU with Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), Rochester, NY, USA was inked which would facilitate short and long-term teaching, students exchange and faculty collaboration between RIT's B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences and RCOEM. CSE department is an active partner to this MOU. Dr. Nirmala Shenoy from Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, New York conducted a one week workshop on “Networking and Emulabs” from 16th to 20th December 2015 at Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

Recognition: Felicitation at the hands of Shri. DevendraFadanvis, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Maharashtra State, at 22nd National e-Governance Conference in January 2016. The said project was adjudged “FIRST RUNNER UP” at the project competition on e-Governance organized jointly by DTE and GHRCE Nagpur on 18-01-2016.
This project was also shortlisted and showcased at COMP-EX 2016 Exhibition under “Nagpur Next –IT Based Project Competition”

CONSULTANCY

WCL Online Test:

CSE Department has a MoU with leading Public Sector undertaking, Western Coalfields Limited (WCL). The department conducted an Online Test for Gr-II Technical Staff (Departmental) Recruitment of WCL on 10 Jan 2016 for 1000 candidates. The Recruitment Test module was developed in-house by the students of CSE. Dr. M. B. Chandak, Prof. Vrushali Karkare and Prof. M. R. Wanjari have conducted the training program for WCL employees.

Placements

21 IT companies viz., Amazon,VMWare, Fivetran, Barclays, Informatica, Musigma, ZS Associates ,HSBC, Siemens, GE Appliances,TCS, Sysntel, PERSISTENT SYSTEMS LTD., INFOCEPTS, ACCENTURE, INFOSYS, WIPRO, Extramarks etc recruited the students of final year CSE. Since last three years the department has taken various steps towards campus placement to provide opportunities to students to do paid internships in Industries during their 8th Semester. We had Amazon, Informatica,VMWare, Siemens, ZS Associates, etc. recruited 95 students for six months internship. Students are getting stipend ranging from 10000 to 30000 per month during their internships. Till now total 215 offers are extended to 96 First shift students and 118 to Second shift students from various industries. The placement details of the department for both shifts for the session 2018-19 at the end of May, 19 are as follows:

Placement and Higher Studies

Since the beginning of department, the average placement percentage is around 90% each year. There are around 15-20% of students opts for Higher studies at reputed institutes in India or abroad. There are four software companies operating in India and two software companies operating in USA by alumnus of the department. Some of the alumnus of the department are presently placed in A+ layer software companies like Intel, Yahoo, Microsoft, Google, Amazon, PeopleSoft and Oracle.
