About Department

Vision :

To be a knowledge centre in civil engineering education, training, research, entrepreneurship and industry outreach services for creating sustainable infrastructure and enhancing quality of life.

Mission :

To generate quality civil engineers with strong technical and managerial skills through creation of conducive environment for creative learning and research in association with stake holders.

Rapidly growing infrastructure demands for highly qualified competent Civil engineers. Considered as one of the oldest engineering disciplines, Civil Engineering involves planning, designing and executing infrastructural development works. The profession deals with a wide variety of tasks that envisages designing, supervision and construction activities of bridges, tunnels, buildings, airports, dams, water works, sewage systems, ports, etc. and offer a multitude of challenging career opportunities. With privatization, liberalization, and globalization the scope of Civil Engineering has enhanced many folds.

Salient features of Department

  1. The department was established in 1984, runs a Under-Graduate and two post graduate programmes namely M. Tech. (Structural Engineering) Full-Time and M. Tech. (Geotechnical Engineering) Part-Time.
  2. UG program is accredited four times by NBA, New Delhi. The details are:

  3. PG program M. Tech. (Structural Engineering) is accredited twice by NBA, New Delhi. The details are:
    27/12/2016

  4. Department is actively associated with research institutes like NEERI (National Environmental Engineering Research Institute) and professional bodies like, IWWA (Indian Water Works Association), ICI (Indian Concrete Institute), GES (Geotechnical Engineering Society).
  5. Department has also signed Memorundum Of Understanding (MoU) with various reputed organizations such as Indian Water Works Association (IWWA), Artefacts Project Ltd., M/S P.T.Mase and Associates, GEO systems Research And Consultants (India) Pvt. Ltd., Kaware and Jawade Projects Pvt.Ltd., IMAGIS Nagpur, Ground water surveys and development agency, Nagpur and VSPM Dental College and Research Centre. Large number of the students participates in various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities are conducted by the department in close association with MOU signatories, construction firms, professional bodies etc.
  6. The Department is also providing testing and consultancy services in the field of Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental / Waste water Engineering, Concrete Technology, Transportation Engineering, Strength of materials and Estimation and Surveying work with its well-equipped laboratories.
  7. The faculty has successfully completed many consultancy assignments for organizations such as BPCL, WCL, MOIL, Ispat Industries, J.K. Paper mills, etc. Civil Engineering Department offered consultancy to Vidarbha Irrigation Development Corporation, Atomic Mineral Directorate Govt of India, Gimatex Industries, Maharashtra State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation Ltd.
  8. The department has Civil Engineering students Association(CESA), a platform for students to exhibit their academic and extra-curricular talent through various seminars, workshops and conferences conducted by students themselves. CESA also organizes NEEV , a technical, entrepreneurship development workshop every year.
  9. The department is proud of its alumni who are working in prestigious organizations such as PWD, CPWD, IRCON, RITES, AFCONS, etc. Many of the alumni are successful entrepreneurs in the field of Civil Engineering.
  10. The Department is an approved research centre of RTM Nagpur University for M. E. by Research & Ph.D. Programmes. The department has 9 Ph.D and 20 M.Tech. or equivalent faculties amongst them.
  11. The results of the students in the examinations are excellent under autonomy structure.

Career Prospects

  • Civil engineering graduates in general have a wide scope with respect to their career planning. To name some, a structural consultant, project manager, entrepreneur, software professional, and armed service professional.
  • Civil engineering graduates find their prominent places in all the major construction projects carried out by the state or central public works departments, Indian railways, armed forces along with construction companies like L&T ECC, Hindustan constructions, IVRCL, Simplex, etc.
  • Various NGOs working in environment and water sector seek services of Civil engineers as consultant at national and state level. They can join the Engineering and Administrative services through competitive examinations conducted by Union Public Service Commission and State Public Service Commission.
